Several years ago a film crew from our church hit the streets of Charlotte to produce a “man on the street” video asking people “What comes to your mind when you think of the Christmas story?”

Number one answer?

“The movie.”

Yep, the 1983 “You’ll shoot your eye out, kid” tale from 1940’s Indiana of a nine-year-old boy’s desire for a Red-Ryder Carbon-Action 200-Shot Range Model Air Rifle BB-Gun (and, lest we forget, with a compass in the stock).

An intriguing editorial in Time magazine at around the same time chronicled how A Christmas Storyhas become the quintessential American film for Christmas, replacing It’s a Wonderful Life.  Titled “Generation X-Mas,” it chronicled how an “upstart film became a holiday icon for the post-boomer set.”

As for George Bailey?

“Not so into him anymore.”

In a 2006 Harris poll (and I haven’t found one more recent), those from older generations picked Bedford Falls, along with Macy’s (Miracle on 34th Street) as their favorite film destinations.

But respondents a bit younger, from 18 to 41 years old, granted the “major award” to Scott Fargas, Flick and the Bumpus’ dogs – hence this season marking the 14th year (with steadily rising ratings) of the 24-hour marathon on TBS come December 24-25.

This is one of the “pop-cultural shifts,” suggested Time – such  as football overtaking baseball, salsa defeating ketchup – that “signal bigger changes.”  Perhaps because it’s everything It’s a Wonderful Life is not – “satiric and myth-deflating, down to the cranky store Santa kicking Ralphie down a slide.”

Or, as Time noted, perhaps it is because of the changing relationship between the community and the individual.  Whereas the older films position Christmas as that which “uplifts the suicidal, raises every voice in Whoville, [and] renders peace between Macy and Gimbel,” A Christmas Story “inverts the moral.”

Now it’s the individual Christmas experience that matters.  Getting the BB-gun, instead of protecting the local Savings and Loan for the poor, is the point.  Or as Time put it, “It’s the individual Christmas that matters.  Bedford Falls can take a hike…[it’s not about] angels’ getting their wings.  Christmas is about the kids’ getting their due.”

But perhaps we can go where Time could not.

The great divide between It’s a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Story is more than just the radical individualism that marks our day, but what has spawned such individualism.

The real divide between the two films is that one retains the idea that Christmas is about the birth of Jesus, and one does not.  Unless I have missed it, A Christmas Story does not have a single reference, symbol, picture or event that would suggest Christmas is about the birth of Christ, or has religious significance of any kind.

It’s a Wonderful Life, on the other hand, was rich in Christian idea and ethos, from traditional Christmas songs celebrating the birth of Christ (the climax of the movie is marked by the spontaneous outburst of “Hark the Herald Angels Sing”) to the central character of an angel.

A Christmas Story is marked by the complete and total absence of anything religious at all, much less Christian.  No nativity scenes, no church services, no Christian music – even the department store, Higbees, honors the season not with shepherds or wise men, but with characters from The Wizard of Oz.

Yet this reflects more than the choice of one movie over another.  An analysis of 48,000 hours of programming by the NRB (National Religious Broadcasters) in December of 2002 (again, a study I have not found repeated) found that 90 percent of programming did not have a significant spiritual theme.  7 percent had a religious or spiritual theme, but did not refer to Jesus or the biblical story of His birth.

Jesus was the focus of only 3 percent of all Christmas programming.

Yet I confess that A Christmas Story has become one of my favorite movies.  The nostalgia of the time, and the way it reveals how Christmas often “works,” runs deep and familiar.  But when I watch it this season, along with millions of others, I will remind myself that while it is a Christmas story, it is not the Christmas story.

For that I would need to return to Bedford Falls.

Or better yet, the little town of Bethlehem.

But my main gold is to reach the people that don’t know God or have fallen away and try to warn them that time is getting short. We have to be working fast to win these souls. God says to go out and preach the Gospel to all living creators. In Acts 10:36, He says, “The Word which God sent unto the Children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ,” {this is justifying Peace, which comes instantly upon the acceptance of Christ}: [ He is Lord of all:] this means:{Jesus Christ is Lord because He has made Salvation possible for all who will believe,} scripture reference: [Phil. 2:11]. We look around, hear, and see the things that is going on in our nation. God is sending out warnings to show people that the time for playing around is over. You have to make the choice today to choose The One who loves you most. Choose The One you’ll be with forever. Don’t wait till The Rapture has taken place to decide. Make your choice today! Things are going to get much worse and He’s giving you a chance. Please don’t be like the people of Israel and the people in the day of Sodom and Gomorrah. The sins that is being committed in our nation today God destroyed a city and nation because of it. So, as I lay it out for you here is a statement with four choices on it I pray that you make the right one. “CHOOSE JESUS!!!” I pray God’s blessings on you and His face to shine upon you as you ponder on this. Where sin abounds His grace doth much more abound.

The Lord has called me to tell all brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus, that we are to honor our president as it is honoring the Lord.  This is not possible with a human being alone, but all things are possible with God.  Pray in the name of Jesus to change your heart to honor all those in authority whether they are good or bad because God has anointed them to serve here.  The Lord has chosen both good and bad rulers, so we must honor the Lord’s chosen person who is in charge of our nation.  God puts people in charge whether they recognize Him or not, for His purpose to serve.  1 Peter 2:13-17, 21-25 Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every authority instituted among men; whether to the king, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right.  For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men.  Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God.  Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.  To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.  “He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.”  When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats.  Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.  He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.  For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

Satan deceives and tells lies regarding God’s truth.  Even if we don’t agree with our president, we should submit and honor him because when we do, we honor the Lord.  The only time to not submit to the authority of a bad ruler is if he or she commands us to deny God, or to do evil.  The laws we have in place are against God, however, we are not being commanded or forced into partaking in them.  If commanded or by force, we are to resist to do evil and not participate in their ways, even unto the point of death, as we have no fear of death like those who don’t have God.  By submitting and honoring those who are in charge is this:  we are not retaliating to violence as Jesus taught us, nor do we speak ill against anyone that God has chosen, including those who are against God and do wicked things.  Instead, we are taught by the Lord to pray for our enemies which are enemies to God, but seeking Him in prayer for their soul and not to gossip about them, but rather, out of sorrow in our hearts, we need to feel pity for their soul.  We need not be concerned about the things of this temporary world, for one day soon it will perish.  Our concern must be for those who are enemies to God, the lost and hurting souls who are demon possessed or oppressed and don’t have the hope we have.  We being born in the Spirit of God are called to love all people whether they love us or not.  Matthew 5:44-45 But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven.  He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and unrighteous.

Matthew 10:8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons.  Freely you have received, freely give. Mark 1:27 The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, “What is this? A new teaching-and with authority!  He even gives orders to evil spirits and they obey him.”  Acts 8:4-7 Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went.  Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Christ there.  When the crowds heard Philip and saw the miraculous signs he did, they all paid close attention to what he said.  With shrieks, evil spirits came out of many paralytics and cripples were healed.  Ephesians 6:10-12 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Put on the full armor of God so you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  Romans 6:12-13 Do not, then, allow sin to establish any power over your mortal bodily parts to be as if it were, weapons of evil for the devil’s purposes.  But, like men rescued from certain death, put yourselves in God’s hands as weapons of good for his own purposes.  This is urgent regarding our enemies who strike us and our brethren in the faith who may cause strife with hardship, so we must take heart these words in Ephesians 4:26-27 , 29-32 In your anger do not sin.  Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.  Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.  And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.  Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.  Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

This is an email I received today and thought that all of my readers should take a look at our government and the lies that they put out and understand that we must pray for our government and the leaders in office so that some day they will understand the predicament that they have put us in and turn from their ways and seek God and His Wisdom….

The Congressional delegation investigating Russian intelligence alerts about Tamerlan Tsarnaev in 2011 returned from Moscow this week with a message that completely misses the point.

If we had had the kind of U.S./Russian cooperation a year ago that we have now, the delegation postulate, the Boston Marathon bombings might have been prevented. According to the Boston Globe, Representative Dana Rohrabacher, a California Republican who chairs the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee that organized the trip, said that “[the bombing] could have been averted [if] both countries were working together on a much higher level.”

This conclusion, however, is wrong. The Russians did warn the FBI about Tamerlan Tsarnaev, and their warnings were quite specific. Based on their own intelligence intercepts, the Russian secret service knew that Tsarnaev was communicating with jihadists in Chechnya, had become a follower of “radical Islam,” and might attempt to travel to Russia to join the Chechnyan “resistance” — something he apparently did, or tried to do, one year later.

So the FBI dutifully interviewed Tsarnaev and his family in January of 2011. When they failed to find any evidence that Tsarnaev had committed, or was about to commit, a crime, they closed his file and forgot all about him. They did not share the Russian warnings with anyone in the Cambridge police department (the city where the Tsarnaevs lived) or the Massachusetts State Police, apparently because becoming a “follower of radical Islam” is not illegal and therefore not something the FBI should worry about.

That’s too bad, because nine months after the warnings — on September 11, 2011, the 10^thanniversary of the 9/11 attacks — three men in Tamerlan’s social circle were murdered in the Boston suburb of Waltham under what must have struck local police as highly unusual circumstances. The three — Brendan Mess, Erik Weissman, and Raphael Teken — were found in different parts of their apartment on the morning of September 12, their throats cut so deeply that they had been nearly decapitated. Furthermore, the bodies had been sprinkled with marijuana and money – over $5,000 in cash. One local police officer said that it was the bloodiest crime scene he had ever encountered, and that it looked like something “right out of an al-Qaeda training video.” What it did not look like was a typical “drug-related crime.”

And yet that is how the police apparently treated it. If investigators had asked questions about the victims’ associates, they would certainly have turned up the name of Tamerlan Tsarnaev and possibly also Tamerlan’s younger brother Dzhokhar. Tamerlan was a close friend of Brendan Mess. After the Marathon bombings, in fact, Mess’s family told reporters how puzzled they were that Tamerlan had not attended Brendan’s funeral, since they had once been very close. But apparently the police did not discover this in 2011.

However, even if local police had learned of Tamerlan’s association with the Waltham victims, would they have noted the significance of the 9/11 anniversary, the religion of the victims (two of them were Jews), and the Koranic method of execution — “strike [the unbelievers] on their necks” (Koran 8:12), commonly cited by jihadists when beheading infidels? If so, they might have given Tamerlan the kind of scrutiny that would have turned up the same information that had alarmed the Russians in the first place — Tamerlan’s Youtube page, to name one possibility, featuring jihadist preachers from Lebanon and Chechnya.

Would they then have learned that the FBI had also been interested in Tamerlan Tsarnaev, less than a year earlier, based on warnings from Russian intelligence? Wouldn’t it have been helpful if the FBI had alerted local authorities more broadly to keep an eye on the Tsarnaevs? Had local authorities known these things, and if they had been trained to spot the pattern of jihad crimes and jihad incitement, then Tamerlan Tsarnaev could not long have escaped whatever responsibility he might have shared for the killings in Waltham. He would now be in prison, and the victims of the Marathon bombing would be alive and well.

So it would seem that Russian/U.S. cooperation is not what we need more of, if we are to prevent so-called “lone wolf” terrorist attacks. Rather, we need more cooperation between the FBI and local law enforcement. But what we need most is a greatly enhanced program for educating law enforcement about what jihad means, where it comes from, who promotes it, and how to spot it. We would have had such a program long ago were it not for the baleful influence of the government’s “Muslim outreach partners,” who have convinced government officials that there is no connection between Islamic doctrine and acts of terror. The bloody consequences of such deliberate miseducation are more apparent now than ever before.

Until the police know what to look for, they will never be able to find it, and if they don’t know what it looks like, they won’t be able to see it, even when it is right in front of their noses — even when it looks like something straight out of an al-Qaeda training video.

MEMRI then translates them into English so we can know exactly what is being said in those cultures—unfettered by our gutless politicians and leftists media so punch-drunk on political correctness they feel the need to cover for those who wish us harm.

One of MEMRI’’s recent clips definitely is worth watching. It features an April 1st talk given by former Jordanian Prime Minister Abdelraouf Al-Rawabdeh, who served from 1999-2000 and graduated from the American University in Beirut (Lebanon).

To fully understand the context of what that means, consider the American University in Beirut was originally founded by American Christian missionaries in 1866, U.S.-Jordanian relations have been close since King Abdullah II ascended to the throne in 1999, and U.S. taxpayers have provided at least $13 billion in foreign aid to Jordan as well.

In other words, American taxpayers both educated and put food on the table for the likes of Al-Rawabdeh. That means we’ve been pretty good to Al-Rawabdeh and his ilk if you ask me. In fact, many of us went to work to pay for our own food and education so that our tax dollars could take care of the Al-Rawabdehs of the world.

Explaining to a friendly audience why he and his fellow Islamist politicians often say one thing to the people at home when they don’t think the West is watching, and then are all smiles for the Western cameras when they know we are, Al-Rawabdeh said the following:

The preacher speaking from the pulpit, the philosopher, the politician, the university professor, the school teacher – they are all attuned to the conscience of the nation. Listen carefully to what I am saying. They are attuned to the conscience of the nation, and they are true to what they believe in, but they are not responsible for its implementation.

A preacher stands up in his pulpit and says ‘we must confront America the spearhead of heresy.’ Fine. What does he want us to do about it? He doesn’t say. Along comes the politician, whose job it is to understand the local, regional, and international balance of power, and he talks only about what he can accomplish.

Once, when I was running for office, someone tried to give me a hard time. He approached me and asked: “What do you think about America?” I asked him: “Are you asking me as a politician or as a candidate?”

He said he was asking me as a candidate. So I said “America is an enemy state, which provides weapons to Israel, kills our Palestinian people, controls our Arab countries, expropriates our oil, and destroys our economy.”

So he was pleased, but then he said: “And as a politician?” I said: “America is our friend. It stands by us and provides us with aid.”

(Crowd cheers and laughs)

He said: “Don’t you see that as a moral contradiction?” “No,” I said. “I say that America is an enemy in order to appease you, and I say it as a friend in order to get you food. Which one do you prefer?”

(Crowd cheers and laughs again)

Translation: When stupid American politicians are willing to confiscate the wealth of their own people to prop us up, we’ll wink and nod to go along to get along. But when push comes to shove, don’t believe the propaganda, we hate America every bit as much as you do.

In the West we have a saying: “never look a gift-horse in the mouth.” I don’t know about you, but I’m not exactly feeling warm and fuzzy about seeing my prosperity redistributed to people that hate us no matter how much we pay them not to.

I don’t know about you, but I am really upset and I have something to say to Jay Bakker and all who agree with him and the above linked article.

Jay Baker, your actions are such an Abomination to the Lord and the Church. I understand that anyone can open a church and become a non-profit org. and have the same rights as the Church, But let me be one of the first to tell you that your actions don’t even come close to anything related to a church or a preacher. The Devil really has you by the throat and you are so unaware of it and your own stupidity that it isn’t even funny. That’s right, I’m not laughin’.

What ever it is that has gotten into you, sorry, I know what’s gotten into you;) but anyway, to take something so Holy and turn it into something that is so Abominable is just short of being Satanic.

First of all, You want to start a Church and you meet in a bar! How much further from God can you take this. The only thing worse than that is meeting at a sex club. Every Holy Church that has ever been started has been started in the home of one of the members or maybe a coffee shop, NOT A BAR!!!!!!

Do you even grasp the stupidity that Satan and his minions have put in your thought process????

No, You haven’t! How do I know? BECAUSE YOU HAVE JUST TURNED THE SYMBOLIZED BODY OF CHRIST INTO A HOMOSEXUAL BODY OF CHRIST!!!!!!!!!!!

Look, I do not care about how many people do not like this post, but by the end of this post, you will understand just how stupid the Devil has made you. The article above has this to say about the bread:

You are not only celebrating your first day of church in a bar, but you are doing it in honor of LGBT! That is more than just an Abomination To The Lord, It is Blaspheme!!!! What you are actually doing is turning the Symbolized Body of Christ into the body of  lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, & transsexuals body of god. I do not care how you look at it, You Cannot  put anything that is Un-Holy in place of or with something that is Holy. In other words, You Cannot use Grace because it abounds, but instead you cancel out God and His Body because it is and He Is Holy, He cannot and will not be associated with anything that is Un-Holy!

In Leviticus 18:22 we read “Do no lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable.” The Hebrew script is just as clear as this English translation… This obvious sense of this Command seems to be understood that homosexual sexual relations are forbidden by Scripture.

Now I agree that it is a tragedy for this gay man’s first partner to have killed himself and how he had been put through shock therapy to convert him from being gay, But, You do not need to kill yourself because you are gay nor do you have to be put through shock therapy to convert yourself from being gay.

When you understand the Sin Nature and how it relates to you and you get Justified and Sanctified by Jesus Christ all these things will be past you. For the Bible tells us in 2 Cor. 5:17 “Therefore, If anyone is in Christ, He is a new creation; old things have passed away: behold, all things have become new…”
