Key's crosses, hand built and a reminder of what Christ did on the cross. (Credit: Key's Crosses)Key came home from a Boy Scout meeting at his church with a great idea.  He had learned woodworking and knot tying skills and thought of a creative way to use both.  He constructed a cross that his family displayed in their front yard to celebrate Easter.  It wasn’t long before the neighbors and passersby took notice and Key received a number of compliments and inquiries from people who wanted a cross for their own yard.  So began a small business, a great ministry and a perfect Easter reminder for all of us.

Key learned John 3:16 when he was a small boy and it became one of his favorite verses.  The entire gospel message can be found in the words: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”  In many ways the idea for Key’s crosses was born out of his understanding of that verse.

Key makes his crosses out of Western Red Cedar, a reminder of the sacrifice the cross represents.  He learned a special rope lashing in Boy Scouts and the way the rope is wrapped around the wood is a reminder of what Jesus chose to endure for the sake of our salvation.  The knots that are used represent the fact that Jesus died on a cross so that we could forever be joined with him in heaven – a tie that binds.

Key loves Jesus and that first cross was a statement of his faith.  As his cross-making business began he also discovered another reason to build them.  Key met Clayton Kershaw, a pitcher for the L.A. Dodgers, when his choir sang at the baseball player’s wedding.  Later Key, who is a baseball player for the Highland Park Scots, heard Clayton speak at his church and became very interested in Kershaw’s “Mercy Street Field of Dreams Project.”  Key decided that he would donate a portion of every cross he sold to that ministry.

(Credit: Key's Crosses)Key said, The Lord has blessed me in so many ways, I just wanted to be a blessing for others.”  His favorite verse is Luke 10:27, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and love your neighbor as yourself.”  Key makes his crosses in three different sizes and sells them for: $15 for the 30″, $25 for the 44″, and $45 for the 60″.  If you want to order one please send an email to keyscrosses at yahoo dot com (we typed the words for technical reasons) orcomplete this form. Orders are currently limited the United States.

This is an important week in our spiritual lives.  Every year we observe the Lenten season so that we remember the price that Jesus paid to redeem us from this world into life eternal.  Like Key, we know that we have been “blessed in so many ways.”  Now, how can we follow this young man’s example and remember that we are to be a blessing to others as well?

I imagine you have plans for this Sunday, or will make plans.  How can those plans include blessing another?  There are so many people who would attend an Easter service, if someone who “knew the ropes” would take them.  There are so many people who have a great deal, but are lacking God’s blessing of salvation.  How might you share the story of the cross with someone who does not understand its significance?  This week is a potent reminder of how much we are loved and how much love we have been given to share.  Who will you bless this week with the blessings you have received?

I loved hearing about Key and the crosses he was inspired to build.  I’m placing my order – and I have the good fortune of getting in line ahead of some of you!  (Although…if I don’t get to use it until next Easter, I understand.  I am a mom of two sons and I realize Key has school and baseball practice this week too.)

This is an important week.  I pray that all of us will pay attention to the ways God might inspire us to use our gifts and talents for his glory.  God loved us so much he gave us Jesus.  Let’s live gratefully aware that we will never perish and will one day receive the gift of eternal life.  And let’s share our Easter blessings with others.

A Really Interesting Read!!!

zhang and liuAbout 100 Chinese pastors were barred by police from attending a Christian conference in Hong Kong in early March, China Aid reports.

Another 2,000 pastors were granted the entrance/exit pass needed to visit Hong Kong, which retains some of its freedoms since the British colony was turned over to China in 1997. Some of the attendees were from Taiwan, which is not under Chinese dominion.

The conference – sponsored by China Aid, China Ministries and Evangelistic Ministries Intl. – featured well-known pastors, lawyers, professors, authors and scholars. It focused on evangelism, “kingdomization,” and aligning the Chinese church with Christian values, China Aid reports.

China Aid spokesperson Rachel Ritchie was reluctant to speculate as to why some invitees were barred from the conference. But a pastor who has traveled to and ministered in China says persecution comes in waves and is sporadic.

The barring is being seen as part of an…

Isaiah 53:5

He Was Wounded For Our Transgressions!

He Was Wounded For Our Transgressions. 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.

(“He was wounded for our transgressions,” pertains to the manner in which He died, which was the price He paid for the Redemption of humanity.

He was bruised for our iniquities,” means that what He suffered was not at all for Himself, but all for us. It was for our iniquities. Look at the Cross, and then say, “My sin did this.”

The chastisement of our peace was upon Him,” means that if peace between God and man was to be restored, all which Adam Lost, then Jesus would have to bring it about. Here is the simple doctrine of the Gospel – the death of Christ. All other founders of religions base their claims upon their life and their teaching – their death was a calamity, and without significance. But the death of Christ was His Glory, and forms the imperishable foundation of the one and only Salvation. His purpose in coming was to die.

And with His stripes we are healed,” definitely pertains to physical healing, but is for grater in meaning than that. Its greater meaning refers to being healed of the terrible malady of sin.)

The Bible Reveals that the Earth is Round!

How The Earth Looks

The Scriptures tell us that the earth is round: “It is He that sits upon the Circle of the Earth” (Isaiah 40:22).

The word translated “Circle” here is the Hebrew word chuwg, which is also translated “Circuit” or “Compass” (depending on the context). That is, it indicates something spherical, rounded, or arched-not something that is flat or square. The book of Isaiah was written sometime between 740 and 680 B.C. This is at least 300 years before Aristotle suggested, in his book On the Heavens, that the earth might be s sphere. it was another 2,000 years later (at a time when science believed that the earth was flat) that the scriptures inspired Christopher Columbus to sail around the world.

The Bible & Earth’s Free Float In Space!

Earth's Free Float In Space

At a time when it was believed that the Earth sat on a large animal or giant (1500 B.C.) the Bible spoke of the Earth’s free float in space: “He…hangs the Earth upon nothing.” (Job 26:7)

Science didn’t discover that the Earth hangs upon nothing until 1650 A.D.

The Harvest Church of St. Petersburg, Russia was closed by the Russian government without warning. Government officials reported that the church was conducting unregistered educational activities, namely holding Sunday school classes during the week without explicit permission.

Wade Kusack is the Project Manager for Russian Ministries; his specialty is religious issues in Russia. Krusack explained, “In Russia, the church is supposed to have registration. Without registration, no one has the right to practice their religion. The church was stripped of its legal registration.”

Since the Harvest Church did not acquire the proper documentation necessary to hold the weekday Christian education classes, the church was liquidated without question.

Kusack  believes that the Russian government did not have to react so harshly. “They could give a church a warning. Or they could come and investigate what was really happening. But they decided–when they spotted so-called not licensed activity–they immediately closed the church.”

The Russian Supreme Court supported the liquidation of the Harvest Church. Next the case will be presented to the European Court of Human Rights, but Kusack says that success there is unlikely to alter the decision to close the church.

“We should understand and realize that those times of persecution of the church are coming back, and it has become more obvious year by year. We unfortunately can observe more and more persecution of the church in Russia.”

I was listening to a song today entitled “Jesus Rescued Me”. In the song it talkes about the mountains in our lives seeming too high and sometime we feel we are crossing rivers that are too wide. We dont have to worry because Jesus will rescue us. He climbs our mountains with us and he even carries us across those wide rivers. He is our strength that keeps us going.I know there are some people today feeling some discouragement but just remember Psalms 46:1, God is my refuge, my strength, and a very present help in trouble. He also said, Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavey laden and i will give you rest. He willdo that for each one that feels that way. I also just want to say to my pastors, Bro. Mark and Sis. Kim, that i love you both, I am praying for you and i am there behind you to help hold up your hands when they get weary and tired. To them and my church family I just say I love you all and we know for sure that Jesus will certainly Rescue Us. Have a blessed day the rest of this day and your day tommorrow.
